Just a reminder, the Penguin Plunge will be taking place on Saturday, February 20th. Location is Crystal Lake in Middletown, CT - the registration begins at 10am with the actual plunge beginning at noon (In the past we've arrived a few minutes before 10am). This'll be our fifth year attending, very fun though short event - and if anyone wants to do the actual plunge this year, please let me know.
For any not familiar with the Penguin Plunge, it's an annual fundraising event where participants jump into ice waters to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Connecticut. Obviously fursuiters will not be asked to jump in the lake, though we do do a fun 'phoney' plunge (more details listed below under the cut).
The Important Details
Registration for the event starts at 10am, which is when it begins to get busy. You may arrive a little early so you have more space in the changing area. We'll be using the kitchen area as our changing area again and to store our gear.
Directions to Polish Falcons Nest 519 at Crystal Lake: if you wish to use Google Maps or a GPS, it is at: 144 Prout Hill Road, Middletown, CT 06457 - when you get near the final destination you will see signs and folks instructing on the parking.
People will be registering and wandering around the lodge area from 10am - noon, then they will begin having groups take the plunge. In the past, our group has done a bit of a 'phoney' plunge - fursuiters would line up looking to jump in, run to the edge of the lake and then stop, and one fursuiter would continue into the water - the past four years of attendance we have had one fursuiter interested in taking the plunge. If anyone is interested in doing this, please let me know. We would need to sign onto the announcement list before the plungers begin jumping into the water.
Depending on the weather, the parking lot may or may not be completely clean. If you are worried about your foot-paws, you may consider wearing something else for the feet. There are stairs/small hill that lead down to the lake, this has sometimes been a problem in the past if your vision is impaired by the fursuit head. Just keep this in mind when you are walking around.
And of course the parking lot area by the lodge is always available to entertain folks, the inside of the lodge may become too crowded and too hot to do much fursuiting.
So far the list of confirmed attendees is:
If you are interested in attending, please let me know.
